My ‘Watching the daily changing ‘Light on Landscape’ really helps me celebrate the gift we have been given with this planet and the natural world around us, life is precious, let’s enjoy it every day’ I am an abstract expressionist landscape painter, living rurally on the edge of the Mendips, I like to think my style is expressive and immediate, drawing on years of observing. I love the world around me and landscapes are my absolute passion. Through walking, surfing and occasional horse riding, I enjoy connecting with the rural seascapes and landscapes of the UK, whether painting ‘en plain air’, or back in the studio, I pull on all my senses to express an emotional reaction to the world around us.

Having taught Fine Art for over 20 years, some of my work will have a recognisable outcome, other pieces push for greater abstraction and I enjoy that variety, but always there will a sense of energy or tranquillity to be found, this being what I believe we all gain from being fully immersed in nature:)

Other identifying features within my work include a sense of drawing, which will either underpin a piece or freely express over it as a top layer. I love to draw and the presence of a well placed line can say so much and change an entire piece. Additionally, a reference to the ever present contrast between rough and smooth in the natural world can always be found within my painting, pulling on some of my earlier sculptural ceramic training.
