I began my career in jewellery studying at Art College in Mansfield followed by a Three-Dimensional Design course in Manchester where I worked in wood, metal, ceramics and glass. After completing my degree, I worked for a large retail clothing company as a jewellery buyer where I created designs with manufacturers and designers. I continued making throughout this period even when my career changed to teaching in secondary education when I moved to Devon. Currently I work in a shared studio space in Bradninch looking out onto the hills and farms surrounding our lovely town. Every day when I am out walking with my dogs, I am picking up seed heads, shells or twigs and on looking at the shape, form and texture I consider how it could be made into a wearable piece of jewellery. I draw these ideas in a sketch book, and this has become a very useful source of ideas to develop. I have always loved making and inspiration is drawn from nature; I am fascinated by it and try to replicate what I see with the hand tools available. I like to contrast sharp lines with the raw texture I create. I try not to over work the pieces and there is often a difference in the surface finishing- highly polished, satin or oxidised. I work mainly in silver but there are sometimes additional elements of gold applied adding an element of colour to my work. All the designs are unique in that one is never the same as another and have a timeless quality.
