Jurgi Moor
My name is Jurgi Moor and I am an abstract expressionism artist. I was born in Vilnius, Lithuania in 1984. I moved to England 20 and a bit years ago. My little studio is based in Bampton, Devon, on the edge of inspiring Exmoor. I often paint what I feel and not what I see. My intuitive artwork is very expressive and full of energy. With sweeping and gestural brushstrokes and very emotive jags of lines combined with textural mark-making. Often working in groups with one after another painting in quick succession and playing with composition.
My inspiration comes from any interesting rugged aesthetics found in nature: rocks by the sea, tall grasses by lakes, rugged and windswept nature on Dartmoor and Exmoor. The key to my work is to express everything that I felt in those places on a piece of paper or large canvas. Some of my childhood memories or things that mattered at the time would also inspire my work.
Put a strong emphasis on mental health and the power of expressing emotions on paper. I did an artist talk at Studio Kind to North Devon artists during which I talked about the reasons I started painting and just how much painting means to me. Since moving to Devon I took part in quite a few shows which included a Solo Show and residency at Southcombe Barn Gallery and shows in Dulverton, Torbay, Dartmoor, and Bideford. I opened my studio to the public a few years in a row and organised and guided Life Drawing sessions in Bampton. Thank you very much for your time reading my short bio.
