Juliette Hamilton

Juliette originally trained at Manchester Metropolitan University in Textile design, gaining a BA Hons specialising in weave. A job designing embroidery for Marks and Spencers followed. In order to fit life round a growing family, after 5 years at M&S, Juliette became self-employed, setting up succesful soft furnishing business. She went back to college a few years later to study horticulture and garden design. The willow sculpture emerged unexpectedly from the garden design and this is what she now specialises in.

Juliette works from her garden studio in South Manchester making willow sculptures of mainly animal form and the natural world. She uses English willow, some homegrown and some from Somerset. Her weaving suggests movement, weight and muscle tone and results in something beautiful and life-like but with character. The flowing organic shapes of animals and the surprising process of intense investigation is a new subject thar really interests her.

The sculptures last forever indoors but, if put outside are temporary and somehow more precious and demand more attention. They must be admired as they age, weather and finally disappear altogether. Each piece is unique and constantly evolves which makes the whole progress exciting and fresh.
