Jan Munro

My aim is to make work that shows my love of textured, weathered surfaces, characterful shapes and contrasting colours. There is a feeling that history is telling a story in the places and things that I paint. Time in Paint. Layers and layers. Hopefully the viewer will feel a need to touch the surface and wonder at the process. Composition and design are key elements in my paintings so that there is a feeling of balance. I love to show the excitement of differences. Opaque next to transparent, neutral next to full colour. The scratchy marks, daubs of paint, bits of paper and lines come from my love of making them. Acrylic paint and my own collage pieces are the medium of choice. They allow the layers and the mark making that are my language.
